Empowered by FFA: The Journey Beyond the Jacket

The National FFA Organization empowers students every day, and I’m proud to be part of that mission by helping them grow as leaders at the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana.

On October 26, 2024, I walked across the stage in front of 71,096 people to receive the highest honor an FFA member can achieve, the American FFA Degree. When I hung up my FFA jacket that day, I knew a major chapter in my life had come to a close. However, the story was far from over.

In June, I received an email informing me that I had been selected to volunteer with the Educational Development and Evaluation Team for the National FFA Organization. Being one of only sixteen individuals chosen from across the country was an incredible honor. More importantly, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in my FFA journey, one where I could give back to the organization that had given me a purpose. I returned to the National Convention last week but this time not as a member in blue corduroy, but as part of the team that helps empower others to shine and learn more about FFA.

My duties included setting up and running several stations at the “FFA Experience Booth,” where students could connect with others, learn about the history of FFA, participate in interactive games, win prizes, and explore leadership opportunities within the organization. Part of my role involved handing out the “Empower” pin, which is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, or mentorship. I’ll never forget presenting an Empower pin to a student from Texas who went out of her way to help another participant,it was incredible to see how much that recognition meant to her.

Getting the opportunity to connect with tens of thousands of individuals was by far my favorite part of this experience. I’ve always loved meeting new people and sharing stories, and this week was filled with countless meaningful conversations. One of my collegiate advisors once told me that I may not remember every word I said or every person I spoke with, but I will always remember how the experience made me feel, and that feeling is something I’ll carry with me forever.

I will always be an advocate for the National FFA Organization, and I couldn’t be more thankful for everything it has provided me throughout the years.

Thank you FFA, I love you.
